Overview of Primary and Secondary Education

The Lycée Français International Samuel Beckett (“LFI”) educates students from 3 years old (Preschool – Petite Section) up to the French Baccalauréat, including the Irish Junior Certificate and the French Brevet des collèges. With instruction delivered in both French and English, LFI students receive an education centered on Excellence and Personal development, allowing them to thrive while becoming self-aware individuals. The primary school (equivalent to ‘Junior Infant’ up to 5th Class), located in Foxrock, is open to all children and welcomes a mix of children from all backgrounds and origins. Although the primary school provides instruction in French and follows the French curriculum, it also offers English courses within an international section.
The Middle and High School, based at the Eurocampus in Clonskeagh, accommodates students from 6ème to Terminale (equivalent to 6th Class to 6th Year in Ireland). The curriculum prepares students for the Junior Certificate, the Brevet des Collèges, and the French Baccalauréat. Secondary education is delivered in both French and English at the Eurocampus, with a mix of students from LFI and St. Kilian’s German School, our partner institution.
With over 500 students across both campuses, the Lycée Français International Samuel Beckett has continued to grow over the past decades, offering a high-quality multilingual education at an affordable cost, ensuring the best preparation for students’ future endeavors.

A European Ethos

History & Ethos

Founded in 1967, the Lycée Français International Samuel Beckett was created to serve the French-speaking community in Ireland by offering an education that blends French academic excellence with Irish cultural richness.
Named after the Irish Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett—who wrote in both French and English—our school embraces a philosophy of openness, exploration, and resilience. Inspired by his words, we encourage our students to:
“Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

Samuel Beckett

At LFI, we go beyond national borders and language barriers. Our mission is to nurture globally minded students through a trilingual, inclusive, and humanist education that values:

Empathy
Commitment
Courage
Honesty
Curiosity

At LFI, education is a whole experience—intellectual, personal, and intercultural. We foster academic excellence, but also wellbeing, inclusion, and individual growth.

Celebrating Irish and French Culture in a European and International Context

Our French-Irish identity is a living reality, not just a curriculum. Whether in classrooms, artistic projects, or international partnerships, students explore the rich connections between France, Ireland, Europe, and the wider world.

From Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations to Irish dancing activity, students are immersed in the richness of Irish life.

Mona McSharry Gymnasium

Throughout the year, partnerships with the French Embassy, AEFE, and Alliance Française deepen our students’ appreciation of Irish-French ties.

For example, in 2024, we were honoured to welcome Mona McSharry, bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics.

In her name, we inaugurated the ‘Mona McSharry Gymnasium’ in Foxrock.

Nos saisons celtes

Furthermore, the launch of the Irish-French book “Nos saisons celtes”, with contributions from LFI teachers, showcased our community’s bilingual creativity.

But other fascinating projects are organized by the Alliance Française to promote readings among students.

Euroscola in Strasbourg

In February 2025, LFI students joined peers from St. Kilian’s to participate in Euroscola in Strasbourg, simulating the work of European parliamentarians—a powerful learning experience in European citizenship.

Thinking beyond barriers

At LFI Samuel Beckett, education is more than academics. It’s a way of thinking and being—fostering openness, inclusion, and respect for difference. In the spirit of Europe, and the legacy of Beckett, we prepare students to engage with the world: with knowledge, with empathy, and with hope, and which follow them after.

Quote

“I’m V.D, a first-year Mechanical Engineering student at McGill University. I had the chance to study at LFI from 2020 to 2024, and looking back, those four years were truly special.
Now, more than six months after graduating, I realize just how much LFI shaped me into the person I am today. It gave me incredible friends,
unforgettable experiences, and the confidence to pursue my dream of becoming an engineer.
Thank you, LFI, for everything! No matter where I go, I’ll always feel connected to this school.”
